About Queerclimbtastic
Queerclimbtastic is an annual queer climbing event at the New River Gorge that brings together around 130 people each year. Since 2007, it’s been a weekend centered around climbing, community, and celebrating the diversity of people who love being outside. Come join us for a weekend of climbing, good people, and plenty of fun!
Our Three Pillars
Foster Safe Spaces
We believe everyone should feel welcome and accepted for who they are. There’s no room for bigotry here. We’re committed to creating a space where people feel supported, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
Promote and create representation
We know that marginalization can take many forms, and some communities face more barriers than others. We want to do our part to create more representation and make sure people who are often overlooked have a place to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Everyone deserves to feel like they belong.
Uphold and maintain our climbing space
We believe it’s important to take care of the places we climb. We encourage everyone to follow Leave No Trace principles, get involved in trail maintenance, and do their part to protect our climbing areas. By working together, we can help keep these places healthy and accessible for future generations.
Mission Statement
We strive to make climbing a more inclusive and accessible space for all queer climbers by fostering safe and affirming environments, promoting representation for marginalized communities, and upholding the stewardship of our outdoor climbing areas. Through community, education, and advocacy, we empower climbers of all identities to find belonging both on and off the wall.
Cantrell Campground
The event takes place at Cantrell Campground in the New River Gorge, West Virginia. Come spend the weekend climbing, camping, and enjoying one of the most beautiful areas in the country. With incredible cliffs, great views, and plenty of adventure, the New River Gorge is the perfect place to bring the community together.
